It’s not exactly a region secret that the “Disney Treasures” DVDs have been gigantic money-makers for the company. So how do you squeeze a diminutive extra cash out of a cash cow? Why, inaugurate throwing arresting shorts onto DVD without remastering them, that’s how!

Yep, the bulk of these cartoons are presented in vintage 20-year-old transfers. The images are soft and low-res, colors are frequently washed-out (I defy you to fetch the color tan anywhere in “Paul Bunyan”), and Cinemascope films such as “Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Assure” are presented in non-anamorphic widescreen. If you have a 16X9 TV, prepare yourself for a joyless experience.

The shorts themselves are largely second-tier Disney, with a few bona fide masterpieces such as “Ferdinand the Bull.” Others prove that when the Disney artists tackled a unusual field (such as UPA-style small animation in “A Cowboy Needs a Horse,” or dimensional animation in “Noah’s Ark,” with its fanciful found-object animals) they could do it better than honest about anybody else. Kids may become a tad restless at times, but animation fans and Disney completists will be in heaven.

Bottom line: If Disney’s going to call these shorts “Treasures” they should treat them as such.

Among the four Disney Treasures DVD sets that came out this year for Wave 5 of the well-liked collection, Disney Rarities, Chronological Donald Volume Two, Legendary Heroes, and High-tail and Marty, I do possess this is the position I was most anticipating. “Disney Rarities: Illustrious Shorts” collects some of the most loved one-shot Disney shorts factual alongside some of the most unseen! Alice and her friends are putting on a wild west point to, but when bullies hurry her costars away, Alice resorts to telling tales of her adventures with Indians and baddies.

Alice Gets In Dutch (1924) : Shrimp Alice gets the dunce cap in school one day for playing with a balloon, and when she falls asleep on her stool, she has to deal with a cartoon teacher and her living schoolbooks!

Alice’s Egg Plant (1925) : Sadly, Virginia Davis is replaced by Anne Shirley in this short. Also, the charming live-action sequences give procedure to total animation, aside from the inclusion of live-action Alice, of course. This is one of those classics you’ll likely remember from your youth, and it also features caricatures of Walt and his animators.

Chicken Puny (1943) : No, this isn’t Disney’s unusual, computer-animated feature, this is a classic short about not believing everything you hear and read, with a bent but very comic ending! I occupy this is one of the several Academy Award nominees in this collection!

The Pelican and the Snipe (1944) : And, here’s another, I own. One of the many shorts Disney did with Obedient Holloway (the new deliver of Winnie the Pooh) as narrator, this is the cute wartime narrative of a sleep-flying Pelican and his actual and protective, sleep-deprived friend living together on a lighthouse in Uruguay. The Minute House (1952) : This heartwarming classic, based on the children’s book, is very similar to the oddly absent from this situation “Susie, the Slight Blue Coupe.” It’s the anecdote of a itsy-bitsy house who grows conventional, lonely, and discouraged while the world around her changes, but in the kill gets cheered up by original owners, a fresh locale, and a unique coat of paint.

Adventures In Music: Melody (1953) : Originally released in 3-D (a first for an American racy film), but fair as exquisite in 2-D, this is the first of the Professor Owl shorts where he teaches his class corpulent of young birds all about the world of music. Very delightful animation.

Ben and Me (1953) : A personal fave that is more of a featurette than a short, obvious to be a hit with American history buffs that don’t recall it TOO seriously. This is the account of Amos, a mouse voiced by Profitable Holloway, who is the precise brains gradual the legacy of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin!

Telling the grim, legal tales late the nursery rhymes “Runt Jack Horner,” “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary,” and “London Bridge Is Falling Down,” this highly captivating short is splendid black for a Disney cartoon!

Paul Bunyan (1958) : The bigger-than-life record of Paul Bunyan the giant lumberjack is told here from his infancy to his retirement in a astonishing mature Disney common!

Noah’s Ark (1959) : Stop-motion animation and household items are feeble for a change in this anecdote from the pages of Genesis in the Bible. As an obsessive Disney fan, I am likely to direct you that ALL the Disney Treasures sets are a must have, and sustain `em coming! I certainly have them all! But, even for the collector who doesn’t obtain every tin box that Disney puts out, “Disney Rarities: Well-known Shorts” is a must! Definite, there are some shorts that are oddly absent. Some of them are available on other Disney releases though. Many seem likely to appear in an educational shorts plot in the future, hopefully. I’m dying for “Scrooge McDuck and Money,” “Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons,” the “What Should I Do” series, “Harold and His Improbable Green Plants,” and Jiminy Cricket’s shorts, among others. I also am desperate for a superior, unedited release of “Cramped One,” Sport Goofy in “Soccermania,” and “Fluppy Dogs,” to name a few. And, to be unprejudiced, even if they can win a bit redundant, I’d like to bag as many of the over 50 Alice shorts (that have not been lost) as possible. Nevertheless, this plot is a Actual cherish! It’s such a shame how relatively unknown this series is. Granted, it does not appeal to everyone, as it is a very subtle and mild series. The genre is historical romance residence in Victorian England. It’s a fine series, the animation is top notch…the Japanese command actors were fabulous and salubrious to their roles. However, I only wish they dubbed it as well…I would’ve loved to hear it in English since the memoir is site in England after all.

This second spot of Emma begins with a textbook example of how to do a recap episode, as Vivian’s reading of Romeo and Juliet prompts Hakim to coyly report to the audience what’s happened so far in the ample fashion of a Shakespearean prologue. As it ends with him proclaiming that the “Second Act” is about to launch, we’re off with the continuing sage of Emma and William.

I loved this movie. I have only seen the unique Phantasm and allotment 3, but I really liked fragment 3. The scene where those people go into the kid’s house and rep killed..well, I wont give it away, but I view it was delicate scary. Phantasm 3 is a qualified fright film. I enjoyed it.

The movie is broad for fright movie fans. It was a suprise to me that it’s not current in movie stores, I can’t salvage it anywhere! Anyways even if your not a alarm movie fan the movie is worth seeing. I personally never heard of Phantasm until I seen the video at a store. Ever since then I have been bent on the whole series. The Stout Man was a suprise to inspect, he’s like a Frankenstein and zombie discover alike. So if you have’nt stoped reading my reveiw I would give this movie a chance if I were you. The mask may not gawk intriguing, But I voice to you that you can glimpse forward to a couple of suprises. Never underestimate the power of cult classics and the Stout Man. I give this movie ****1/2

Season 6 is definately not the average Charmed fans’ approved season but it is definately not the worst of the 8. This season was dazzling worthy up and down, with most of the abominable episodes early in the season. There are however, some spellbinding set points in this season. I commented that many fans did not like the cutesy fairytale elements of Season 5. It is 6 that introduced a character that only half the fans would like. Chris (Drew Fuller) impartial did not reduce the bill. I liked Chris because they kept us guessing about his trusty intentions as he comes from the future, and Charmed always wonders how time go will affect history.

I personally reflect Season 6 is one of the strongest. Only two episodes need to be revised. In “Witchstock,” Paige puts on a pair of go-go boots and ends up in the leisurely 1960s. Piper and Phoebe soon follow suit. They meet a younger version of their grandmother, and the details are all dismal. Grams (as the sisters call her) would be great older, and references to their mother’s age are also improper. In “Promenade City,” Chris becomes infected by a Spider Demon. One of his lines refers to the future, and it confused many fans because of details stated when he first appeared. (Time move always provides for more continuity errors.) I can forgive “Dash City” because it is primary to the region. “Witchstock” is nothing more than filler, though they perform a brief reference to it in Season 7 (otherwise, “Witchstock” is an episode with no actual purpose) .

This is the only season, in my plan, that began strong (”Valhalla of the Dolls”), lost a runt momentum with the two aforementioned episodes, then ended with fair a diminutive more strength than it began (”It’s a Awful, Poor, Dreadful World”) .

NOTE:

Charmed gets mixed reviews from its fans. Several fans have divided the series into “Do you select Seasons 1-4 or Seasons 5-8? ” Or it is “Do you hold Prue (Shannen Doherty) or Paige (Rose McGowan)? ” Can we not like the entire series without deciding between characters or seasons? I liked both Prue and Paige. I preferred Seasons 4-8 because they were darker and more primitive. My advice to people unusual to Charmed is to conception the entire series before they choose.

I gave this movie five stars not because it is an Oscar-quality classic – far from it – but because it succeeds on its occupy terms. It is scary – very, very scary. (If you survey it at night, I dare you to go to sleep without double-checking that the doors are locked!) The over-the-top performances, particularly Joan Crawford’s, are also unintentionally comical. At first eye, this looks one of Hollywood’s freakier genetic experiments: implanting the genes of a political thriller into a road-trip comedy. The surpise is that the offspring is not unbiased viable, but a reliable healthy comedy. It surely helps to have two fathers like James Garner and Jack Lemmon bringing it to life.

They play the roles of two ex-presidents, living out their retirements in their respective ways: grubbing every dollar to be had on the lecture circuit (Lemmon), or grabbing every babe to be had (Garner) . Dan Aykroyd, improbably cast as the modern president, detects a scandal brewing and tries to nail it to the previous administration. Garner and Lemmon, one-time political opponents, are thrown together and the trudge begins.

The comedy comes largely from the series of cheap shots and unsuitable recollections the two hurl at each other. The feel-good fragment comes from their bonding over shared experiences as past presidents, under the pressure of pursuit. The political thriller builds as the hired guns sustain trying to execute the ex-pres, and to bury the scandal with him. As long as you’re not looking for any mammoth subtlety, it works.

It’s a bit goofy, but it’s a genuine, suitable comedy with unprejudiced enough site twists to maintain it from becoming completely predictable. It couldn’t have worked without Garner and Lemmon in the lead roles, though – their experience in such roles is what made the movie work.

First of all, I don’t know how the critic, Mr. Keogh, could possibly call this a “lousy” film! I’m a titanic fan of Garner and Lemmon, two of the all-time greats. This movie is one hilarious joke after another, with some serious moments thrown in for valid measure. It certainly is a heck of a lot better than some of the garbage hailed by critics as masterpieces; it’s a straightforward, non-stop moving affair, one that makes you feel as though you got your money’s worth after watching it. The supporting cast is gargantuan, too, with Bacall, Heard, Ackroyd, and others putting in some solid performances.

There are two versions offered for sale at Amazon. The Koch Vision Entertainment version, despite the description in the technical details, is NOT COLORIZED. The Goodtimes Home Video version version IS colorized. Which you take is entirely up to you, but don’t order the Koch Vision version if you want the movie in color. The Koch Vision version has an extended still film extra of the first time Laurel and Hardy appeared together (NOT as a team, however) . The extra is spicy, but (by today’s standards anyhow) a minute humdrum. The Goodtimes Entertainment (Colorized) version, although a few cents cheaper than the other version, is, in my concept, a powerful “cleaner” print. Even with the color level turned down so it appears as the current B&W, the Goodtimes version is sharper and more definite. March of the Wooden Soldiers, holds up dazzling well.

Adapted from Victor Herbert’s Opera “Babes in Toyland” this 1934 Laurel and Hardy Operetta presents us with a timeless Holiday Classic for the entire family to glimpse during the holidays. The DVD presentation has been meticulously Remastered and Colorized (for the next generation’s enjoyment and for the Dim & White traditionalists impartial turn off the color) .

Laurel & Hardy have never been better. The characters (Based on Mother Goose and current Nursey Rhymes),the fable line of Toyland(Santa’s Toy making Headquarters preparing for the upcoming holiday’s) & the Villian with his henchmen (Much Landlord and his Bogeyman Army) can’t lose. The basis is an Operetta (loosely conducted) musical showcasing the wicked song, “Babes in Toyland”.

Laurel & Hardy play Stannie Dum and Ollie Dee respectively Santa’s toymaker workers who are in constant anguish. Stannie accepts a Xmas toy order but mixes it up and he and Ollie are fired. (Mistakens the order of 600 soldiers at 1 foot spacious for 100 soldiers at 6 foot tremendous, can you imagine? ) . Along with the Villian Landlord, Silas Barnaby trying to evict the “Frail Woman in the Shoe” for non payment sets the tale for this Family Christmas Classic, “MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLIERS”!!!!!

We had seen the movie that aired on TNT Febuary 7th, 2009 and really enjoyed it. Searching on Amazon, we found this same title in the “Movie” allotment on DVD. It is NOT the drama that was aired on TNT. Amazon does not reveal this product with enough detail to know that it is a documentary of Ben Carson. It is a huge video but we smooth would like to gather a copy of the TNT broadcast if they ever release one.

When I first saw this movie on TNT in January 2009 I was so impressed I began an immediate search for a copy to demonstrate my adult children and my grandchildren. This movie is so enthralling for school students, for mothers, for any adult who has not had the self-discipline (myself) to do what is valuable to approach indispensable goals. The message is “If Ben Carson could overcome all he overcame–I can do what I need to do.” Now, he did have a few assets – a phenomenal mother; a core understanding in God; a willingness to learn; an fresh amount of morality. He certainly deserves all the fantastic things that came into his later life. I could not collect the movie in January, so I read several of his books–a generous concept even if you peek the movie. He has more to offer than the movie could possibly exhibit. This movie may never earn a Hollywood oscar, but it is #1 on my list of family movie greats.

From the opening scenes of this film–majestic shots of a car traveling the rural midwest on a crisp autumn morning–HOOSIERS serves see to the viewer that he or she is in for a unbelievable movie experience. Plot in a exiguous Indiana town half a century ago, HOOSIERS captures the view and feel of rural Americana, of a hardworking people with a single commonality: their appreciate for basketball. The pure innocence of this film, innocence long lost over the subsequent decades, is magical.

Gene Hackman portrays Coach Norman Dale, an outsider who comes to basketball-crazy Hickory, Indiana, to coach the high school team. Timorous by mistakes made in his past, Dale is keen for the second chance he has been given. Immediately, his no-nonsense, stress-the-fundamentals coaching philosophy puts him at odds with the town, yet Dale refuses to compromise his principles. He survives–barely–a petition for his ouster, and the rest of the movie warmly portrays the town of Hickory and its high school basketball team coming together, a team that makes a magical hurry through the Indiana Situation Tournament.

Barbara Hershey as Myra Fleener, Hickory’s assistant notable, and Sheb Wooley as superintendent/principal Cletus–the man who hires Dale–are solid. Yet Dennis Hopper gives the best performance as Wilbur “Shooter” Flatch. Shooter, a primitive sizable player himself and father of one of the boys on Coach Dale’s team, is the town drunk; despite his alcoholism, his knowledge of the game is expansive, and Dale enlists his encourage. The reformation of this character–the feeling and depth that Hopper gives this role–is exceptional.

Director David Anspaugh gives us a sensational “feel favorable” movie, augmented by Jerry Goldsmith’s considerable musical secure. HOOSIERS tells a pleasing legend, so magical in its depiction you’ll be cheering from your chair. Highly recommended.

If you already have seen it, after reading this review you may gape it through a different perspective; if you have not seen it, I know you will thoroughly delight in it, over and over again. Hoosiers is not honest my accepted sports movie, it is my popular movie of all time. The movie truly is about redemption, about people failing and being given a second chance. Some handle it better than others, but it cuts a honest reduce out of life in the 1950s and the 2000s! We should all acquire that kind of second chance! The best share is, we do. Many people who saw the slick and stylish Scorcese creation Color of Money didn’t even realize that Eddie Felson already existed on the silver conceal in The Hustler. What many people roar me when they salvage out and peek The Hustler is that either they hated it or loved it. That’s because while Color of Money is unruffled, slick, unruffled, and polished, The Hustler is raw, biting, and remarkable and so by definition it is not for everyone. Color of Money is more about visual effects and music, which is classic Scorcese, though there’s no valid substance. Scorcese himself has said in interviews that movies like Goodfellas were terminate to his heart, but Color of Money was unprejudiced a commercialized creation.

The Hustler, on the other hand, really grabs you. First off, as a pool player myself, let me express you Tom Skim can’t play pool worth a damn, and that lack of authenticity is a glaring weakness to originate with. But unbiased the fact that Newman and Gleason can play pool does not develop The Hustler a better movie – it’s a masterpiece because it is a spicy memoir of human redepmption, of Eddie’s battle to separate his pool game from his self-esteem. It’s also about one man’s passion for the game. How can any pool player forget that soliloquoy by Like A Flash Eddie when he and Sarah go for that picnic, how he talks about how he loves even honest the sound of the click of the balls, how the cue has nerves in it and is allotment of his arm!

Remember that last scene in Color of Money, where young cocky Vincent plays the older, cagier Swiftly Eddie and Eddie declares “I’m benefit” before he breaks the balls? Even though the movie ends there, everyone knows Eddie wiped up the floor with Vincent. Vincent’s character had talent, but Eddie had character, and that’s what beat Swiftly Eddie time he played Fats.

The film has been digitally re-mastered in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. The films looks to be in respectable shape with very exiguous print harm observed. The search for of the film is smoky and gritty and the shadow details are rich indicating strong dim levels prove. This is a very moving looking sad and white film. The sound will not heed but the dialogue, sound effects and occasional music is crisp and usually centered..

Richard Schickel hosts the too short documentary The Hustler: The Inside Memoir which gives us some details on how the film came to be made, and delivers some we were there stories from some of the film-makers and a few surprise guests.

“How to Earn the Shot,” and “Trick Shot Analysis by World Artistic Champion, Mike Massey”

are two shorts demonstrating and showing viewers how to accomplish some trick shots on the pool table.
